Shared paths better connect Tarneit

Wyndham council has finished constructing 2.5 kilometres of shared paths in Tarneit.

Mayor Adele Hegedich said the project included several upgrades along the Melbourne Water pipe track reserve, including a new shared path link through Goddard Street Reserve, a new section of path on Thwaites Road and improved road crossings at Toucan Road, Thwaites Road, Tableland Road, Penrose Promenade, Brinbrook Street, Crossway Avenue and Wilandra Drive.

“This Wyndham city project makes it easier for residents to get to Tarneit train station, the Tarneit Community Centre and Julia Gillard Library, Penrose Community Centre and nearby shops and schools without having to drive,” Cr Hegedich said.

“In particular, this provides Tarneit train station commuters with a hassle-free way to get to and from the station – all the more important as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and we start to return to our workplaces.

“It also provides Tarneit residents with new opportunities to walk or cycle to nearby landmarks without needing to battle traffic.”

Wyndham’s city design portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said the project was an example of the work which council is doing through the Wyndham Active Transport Strategy.

“The strategy aims to turn walking and cycling into a genuine transport mode of choice for residents going about their daily business, making it easier for our residents to get from A to B by connecting the missing links in our walking and cycling paths,” Cr Gilligan said.

“These shared path upgrades will help take cars off our roads and give the growing Tarneit community more travel options.”
