The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the southwestern and southern parts of greater Melbourne.
Severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Werribee, the area west of Werribee, the area east of Ballarat and the area south of the Brisbane Ranges.
The warning stated: “Intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding and damaging winds are likely.
“Prepare to take shelter and be aware of potential hazards caused by the severe weather.
“Hazards include floodwater, damaged buildings, debris, trees down and fallen powerlines.”
Residents have been warned to:
• Park your car undercover and away from trees.
• Stay inside if conditions outside appear dangerous.
• Contact family members and neighbours to ensure they are aware of the situation, if safe to do so.
• Floodwater is dangerous – never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.
• Be prepared for flash flooding.
• You should stay well away from trees, drains, low lying areas, creeks, canals, culverts and floodwater.
• Avoid travel if possible.

• If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low lying areas, creeks, canals, culverts and floodwater.
• Be aware of road hazards such as mud, debris and damaged roads or bridges.
