Seven teens charged over joyride in west

Police have charged seven teens following a car pursuit in the western suburbs.

Police spotted an allegedly stolen white Skoda SUV being driven at high speeds along Greens Road in Wyndham Vale just after 11pm on Tuesday, February 4.

The driver was followed by air and ground units through Werribee, Tarneit and Point Cook before travelling across the West Gate Bridge towards Melbourne before returning to the western suburbs.

The driver stopped on Featherbrook Drive in Point Cook, where the occupants got out of the car and into a white Volvo, police said.

The Volvo allegedly sped off along the Princes Freeway, outbound towards Little River, before returning to the Werribee area.

The driver crashed the car into a tree on Wisdom Avenue in Truganina, before five occupants were arrested at the scene.

Two teens fled on foot, were located with assistance from air forces, and were arrested shortly later.

A 16-year-old boy from the Wyndham area was charged with 12 offences including the theft of motor vehicle and reckless conduct endangering life, he was remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Five boys from the Wyndham area, aged 15, 16, 16, 16 and 17, were charged with theft of motor vehicles.

A 16-year-old boy, also from the Wyndham area, was charged with theft of motor vehicle and possession of cannabis.
