A Tarneit resident is urging all parties involved in the installation of permanent traffic lights at the Settlement and Dohertys roads intersection to speed the process up.
Aijaz Moinuddin said he frequently uses Settlement Road and that a lack of traffic lights at the spot is dangerous on account of the high volume of traffic that passes through.
“I frequently drive through this intersection and have personally witnessed the challenges it presents, particularly during peak hours,” he said.
“The lack of traffic lights creates confusion and increases the risk of accidents.”
He said the problematic intersection– which has been an ongoing cause of debate among residents of the Creektone estate, Wyndham council, the state government and the developer Macson Property Group– is a growing safety risk.
“If action isn’t taken promptly, the risk of serious accidents, injuries, or worse will continue to grow,” he said.
“The intersection’s current state is hazardous, and delaying improvements could lead to preventable tragedies.”
A Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) spokesperson said the delivery of this project has always been the responsibility of the developer of Creekstone estate, Macson Property Group.
The development of the traffic lights are underway and the department is continuing to work with the developer to provide feedback on detailed designs they’ve submitted, the spokesperson said.
Initial service relocation has already commenced, and the developer is expected to begin works on the traffic lights over the coming months, according to the spokesperson.
A council spokesperson said the council shares residents’ frustrations and it has expressed these concerns to the developer and has encouraged Macson to deliver a safer solution as soon as possible.
Macson Property Group was contacted for comment.
