Schools to host COVID-19 vaccination clinics

The state government has announced mini-vaccination clinics will be held at Wyndham schools during February, to help pupils aged between five and 11 years old receive a jab to help protect them against COVID-19.

More than 150 primary schools across Victoria will have mini-vaccination clinics hosted on-campus, under a $4 million grants program to help doctors and community pharmacies go into schools to deliver the vaccine in a familiar and trusted environment for children.

Under the program, local GPs and pharmacists will receive up to $6500 to cover staffing, travel and equipment costs to visit schools and vaccinate children – with an additional $5000 clinic establishment fee per school also available.

Schools set to host the mini-vaccination clinics include Davis Creek Primary School in Tarneit, where the vaccines will be delivered by Werribee Discount Chemist.

Mossfiel Primary School in Hoppers Crossing will also hold a clinic, with the vaccines delivered by SIA Croydon, and vaccines at a Tarneit Rise Primary School clinic will be delivered by the Hume Medical Centre .

The mini-vaccination clinics will only be available to students attending the schools, not the general public.

Fifteen school pop-up clinics were also held at Victorian schools on Saturday, February 5 and Sunday, February 6, including at Tarneit P-9 College.

To date, almost 50 per cent of children aged 5-11 in Victoria have already received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly said: “We’ve done everything we can to make school a safe place when kids get back in the classroom – but the best thing families can do to protect their children is get them protected by a vaccine as quickly as possible.”
