A Hoppers Crossing school has launched an initiative aimed at encouraging children and families to become more active.
On Friday (May 17), which was National Walk Safely to School Day, Woodville Primary School celebrated the launch of its Active Travel Program, in the hope of getting more pupils – and their parents and carers – to walk or ride a bicycle to school on a regular basis.
The Active Travel Program also includes traffic safety education.
The initiative was launched at Woodville Primary School with support from Wyndham council’s Active Travel To School program, which offers grants of up to $5000 to assist local primary schools to reduce traffic congestion and to encourage youngsters to walk, ride and scoot to school.
In addition, as part of National Walk Safely to School Day, Woodville teachers were stationed at various points throughout Hoppers Crossing to meet with families as they walked to the first class of the day.
