The names of two new Wyndham schools, which are set to open next year, have been announced.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas last week said a new Wyndham Vale primary school, which was previously known as Wollahra Primary School, has been officially named Riverbend Primary School.
The school, which is under construction, will include three learning neighbourhoods, outdoor play courts, a performing arts and physical education building and a sports field.
“We are proud to be delivering this new school for students in Wyndham Vale and look forward to Riverbend Primary School becoming an important part of the community,” Mr Pallas said.
In addition, Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly announced the official name of a new Truganina primary school last week.
The school, which was known by the interim name Truganina South East Primary School, has been re-named Garrang Wilam Primary School.
The school’s new name comes from the local Aboriginal word meaning “eucalyptus home”.
Once built, the school will include two learning neighbourhoods, outdoor play courts, a performing arts and physical education building and a sports field.
“We are proud to be delivering this essential new school for students in Truganina and look forward to see the great impact these future students will have on the community,” Ms Connolly said.
The names of both of the new schools were chosen following community consultation and discussions with Geographic Names Victoria, with consideration given to factors including public interest, relevance to the local area, and the consideration of local indigenous languages.
