The Sapphires will hit the stage at the Wyndham Cultural Centre later this month.
Wyndham’s arts, culture and heritage portfolio holder, Cr Tony Hooper, said it was exciting that the multiple award-winning musical would come to Werribee as part of its first major national tour.
“Written by Aboriginal playwright Tony Briggs and inspired by the true story of his mother, The Sapphires is the heart-warming story of four young Yorta Yorta women in 1960s Australia who travel to Vietnam to sing to the troops,” Cr Hooper said.
“Wearing sequins and armed only with microphones, they find themselves on a life altering trip to the depths of war and back again.
“Tony Briggs directs his play for the first time on this tour, and the line-up of talented Aboriginal and multicultural performers and designers really bring his play to life.”
For the ultimate night out, Wolf on Watton will host a special pre-show dining package from 6pm, with a grazing table of blue swimmer crab rolls, a selection of cheeses, truffled ricotta tartlets and more for $25, which also includes a complimentary glass of champagne to take into the show.
The Sapphires will be performed at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on Wednesday, October 23, at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.
