Work is under way on the Sanctuary Lakes South P-9 school.

On Monday, Altona MP Jill Hennessy took part in a sod-turning ceremony at the Kirra Way construction site.

The school, which will cater for up to 675 students once it is completed, will be built in two stages.

The first stage is due for completion next year and the school is set to open during the first term of 2019.

More than $13.8 million funding for the school was included in the 2017-18 state budget.

The school is being built as part of a multi-school tender with Kane Constructions, which will also build the future Truganina East P-9 and four other Melbourne schools.

“It will be a hub that provides great services and facilities that everyone in the Point Cook community can be proud of,” Ms Hennessy said.

While in Wyndham, Ms Hennessy also visited the construction site of a new Scouts and Community Centre, which is being built at the Carranballac P-9 College Boardwalk Campus.

Enrolments will be open in term three this year.
