As they get stuck into the new school year, students at Alamanda K-9 College will be assisted by robot “twins”.
The robots, which can walk, talk and respond to commands, will be a focal point of the school’s learning in 2017.
Students will use them to learn coding, which is being rolled out across all Victorian schools to prepare students for jobs of the future.
Alamanda is one of only two schools in the state to have these robots.
Alamanda principal Lynette Jobson said coding could be a dry subject, but the robots were personable and would make learning fun.
She said the school was planning on running a competition to select names for the robots.
Meanwhile, Point Cook’s newest school will open its doors today (February 1).
Featherbrook P-9 College will welcome its first batch of prep to grade 6 students, with years 7, 8, and 9 to be rolled out in subsequent years.
Principal Kerry Clayton said the school, which is located along Boardwalk Boulevard, had 243 students enrolled for the coming year.
