Meet the new president of Werribee Rotary Club.

Werribee resident Rob Fava took the reins from outgoing president Joe Cumbo at the club’s changeover ceremony this week and is keen to have a strong focus on the local community during his presidential year.

Mr Fava joined the club five years ago, following in the footsteps of his wife and past president, Lyn Fava.

Mr Fava, who runs his own packaging business, has spent the past two years working with Werribee Rotary to build a water well in Uganda that will provide fresh water to 400 students and 1600 villagers in what has become the largest international project this Rotary district has ever funded.

The project, Mr Fava said, would make a big difference in the lives of students and villagers in the area, with kids currently walking four kilometres every day for dirty water.

Now, though, he is keen to focus on projects closer to home.

In particular, he wants to forge stronger links with the Werribee River Association, connect prospective apprentices with employers and set up a youth suicide forum.

“The good thing about Werribee Rotary Club is it’s an active club with a strong presence in the community,” he said.

“Rotarians are all about making a difference.”
