Melbourne’s wild weather has hit hard in Wyndham, flooding roads and damaging houses.

The Wyndham SES Unit’s controller Laurie Russell said volunteers and crews had been kept “extremely busy” due to the storms battering the state.

He said the unit had received 36 calls for assistance since yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

Mr Russell said crews had attended homes with roof damage and collapsed ceilings in suburbs including Truganina, Point Cook and Werribee.

He said the SES was also concerned about the number of motorists attempting to drive through floodwaters, especially on Black Forest Road in Wyndham Vale.

Mr Russell said at the request of the SES, this morning Wyndham council had installed temporary signs on the road to warn drivers against driving through flooding.

“But people just continually keep ignoring the warning signs and driving around them,” Mr Russell said.

Mr Russell said since midnight, three cars had required towing after becoming stuck in the floodwaters on Black Forest Road.

“It just ties up emergency services unnecessarily,” he said.

“Those people also suddenly get faced with a towing fee, for getting their car pulled out of the water.

“The message is clear: don’t drive through flood waters.”
