As the name suggests, the Werribee River Association is dedicated to the preservation of Wyndham’s main waterway, however their efforts extend well beyond it too.
From 10.30am to 12 noon on Sunday October 1, members of the association joined with the Love Our Street 3024 community group for held a clean-up walk in Manor Lakes.
Illegal dumping, disused construction materials, unreturned shopping trolleys, discarded plastics and overflowing bins have made waste a significant problem in the Manor Lakes and Wyndham Vale areas .
Werribee River Association’s Lisa Field praised volunteers for their commitment to tackling the problem
“Despite a very windy morning five hardy souls cleaned along Ballan Road today from Manor Lakes Boulevard to Evergreen Drive picking up five large green bags of rubbish,” Ms Field said.
“A very big thank you to John, Jill, June and new team member Ante for a great effort.”
She said single use plastics, paper and cardboard accounted for the bulk of the 35kgs of waste picked up.
“Most of the litter comprised fast food bags and containers and ‘slurpie’ type drink containers.”
The association’s next clean-up walk is on November 5 where volunteers will meet in the Ultra Tune car park on Ballan Road before cleaning around the garage, medical centre and service station.
