Residents to advise on EPA

Werribee residents can have their say on the future of the Environment Protection Authority when an inquiry team visits next Monday.

The future role of the authority, which is Victoria’s environmental regulator, will be examined as part of a major independent inquiry into climate change and water commissioned by state Environment Minister Lisa Neville.

Ministerial advisory committee members Jane Brockington and Janice van Reyk will host the public meeting, starting 5.30pm, Monday, at the Wyndham City Council Civic Centre.

Werribee is among 17 locations around the state where public forums will be held.

Ms Brockington said the team was seeking feedback directly.

“We want to better understand individual, community and business needs, so the EPA can be well equipped to meet Victoria’s future challenges,” she said.

Topics up for discussion include land-use planning, public health, emergency management, climate change, better regulatory approaches, and ways the EPA can effectively consult with the community.

The inquiry will report to Ms Neville by March 31 next year.
