What was meant to be the start of Jo Lally’s career as a musician, was like many things, delayed by the pandemic.
But this month, the Hoppers Crossing resident will release the music video for her upbeat Christmas themed tune ‘Hey Santa!’ on Tuesday, December 13, despite the various difficulties of the last few years.
“I hope the community feels joy [when they listen to my song], and feel uplifted,” Ms Lally said.
“After everything we’ve been through, it’s a very boppy song and it makes you happy.”
Ms Lally, who works as an early childhood educator, says she drew some inspiration from the classroom.
“When I play it for the kids at work, the kids immediately get up and dance,” she said.
“It’s very catchy, and I think it deserves it, even if it wasn’t mine.”
Ms Lally said the film clip also pays tribute to two of her friends, who suddenly died before they were able to watch the music video.
“I just feel that covid and the loss of people, and the lockdowns, it encouraged people to get up and do whatever their heart tells them,” she said.
Musicians Sarah Maclaine and Robyn Payne are also featured on the song.
