Remember to register your pet

Wyndham council has reminded pet owners to ensure their animals are registered.

Wyndham’s environment and sustainability portfolio holder, Cr Heather Marcus, said it was important that all dogs and cats were registered.

“There are over 20,000 dogs and 6000 cats registered in Wyndham,” Cr Marcus said.

“Because their owners have registered them with council, if any of these pets escape or get lost, we have a much better chance of being able to return them to their families.

“Unfortunately, every year many pets never make their way home due to being unregistered.”

Cr Marcus said it was also important that a pet owner’s details were changed on the register when they moved house or changed their phone number.

“If we ever have to rescue your beloved cat or dog, then we need to make sure we can get in touch with you so they can be returned,” she said.

Cr Marcus said money raised through pet registrations went towards providing the Wyndham community and their pets with off leash areas, free microchipping days, cat desexing, dog walking programs and the annual Pet and Animal Expo.

All pets must be microchipped and cats must be desexed before they are registered.
