Relay ready in full colour

Are you ready to relay, Wyndham?

With just on seven weeks to go until this year’s Relay for Life, event organisers are gearing up for the biggest turnout yet.

Relay chairman Brendan Andrew said 90 teams had registered for the April 1 Cancer Council fundraiser, and he’s hoping as many as 3000 people will join in this year.

“Registration is still open; we’re really hoping to get more people come down,” he said.

The 2017 version will have some new features, including a ‘midnight madness marathon’, at which relayers will be invited to join a marathon in teams of up to four people, or as individuals.

Local live music will be another main feature, with the committee currently locking in performers for the two-day event.

A new attraction is the colour explosion.

“Last year, we had the releasing of the balloons to wrap things up.

“This year we’re thinking an explosion of colours … kind of like a colour run,” he said.

The fundraising has already begun, with a whopping $42,000 already in the coffers, but Mr Andrew is confident a lot more will come.

“We’re aiming for about $350,000 this year … we’re definitely confident the Wyndham community can raise this,” he said.

The Relay for Life will kick-off at noon on April 1, and wrap up at noon the following day.

This year’s event is being hosted at the Wyndham Vale Recreation Reserve.
