Relay for Life to be back in 2017

Get ready to relay – lives depend on it!

Wyndham Relay for Life will be back on the first weekend of April, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.

A whopping 70 teams have already registered for the two-day event, and the committee behind the fundraiser is expecting more to sign on.

Chairman Brendan Andrew said next year’s relay will be launched on October 24, from 6.30pm, at the Salvation Army headquarters on Watton Street in Werribee.

“It’s a time for people to register, if they haven’t already, and for us to talk about fundraising, and look back on last year,” he said.

“Everybody is invited to come down and find out about the event.”

Mr Andrew said there were a number of reasons to get involved in Relay for Life.

“We all want to live in a cancer-free world,” he said. “Every dollar raised via the relay goes towards cancer research and support programs. A lot stays in the local community, via support programs in Wyndham.

“It’s also a great community, family-oriented event. Community groups get together – whether they’re clubs, schools or sporting clubs – and they do something really great for cancer research, awareness and support.”

He said any team that raises $5000 or more will be able to nominate a particular research area to directly contribute their funds to.

Since its inception more than 10 years ago, Wyndham Relay for Life has raised more than $310,000 for the Cancer Council.
