A 10-storey building overlooking Wyndham Park and the Werribee River is the latest high-rise development to get Wyndham council’s stamp of approval.
The $47 million project, dubbed RiverEdge, will be delivered in a public-private partnership between Wyndham council and the Burbank Group.
It includes 100 one, two and three bedroom apartments, two ground floor retail tenancies, 80 residential carparking spaces and a residents’ rooftop area along Comben Drive.
Burbank Group managing director Jarrod Sanfilippo said construction of stage one would begin in mid-2019, with completion scheduled for late 2020.
“Stage one is the first step in our broader Riverbend precinct plan which aims to enhance Werribee’s city centre,” he said.
“The area is benefiting from significant infrastructure investment including road upgrades, as well as the redevelopment of Wyndham Park and the Riverbank Promenade master plan, and we’re excited to be part of this revitalisation.”
Stage two plans are in development and will include a new 8300 square metre Wyndham city community learning hub over five levels and another 200-plus apartments.
The site – which is presently a 59-space carpark – is one of four carparks owned by Wyndham council that will be converted to high-rise complexes in coming years in a bid to rejuvenate the heart of Werribee.
The council received six objections to the planned development, with concerns raised about carparking and access to properties from the rear laneway.
Councillor Henry Barlow said the project aimed to get more people living in Werribee’s CBD to create a thriving hub.
“For a city that’s now got over a quarter of a million people living in it, I think it’s important that we do have a central business district – the capital of our municipality, Werribee – be part of the 21st century.”
