Budding rugby players rubbed shoulders with some of the game’s Rebels last week.
Grange P-12 College sports academy students trained with Melbourne Rebels team members to get a glimpse into the world of top-level rugby.
Young players ran through drills to work on tackling, scrums, defence and offence before grilling the Super Rugby stars for tips.
College head of sport Trish O’Neill said the visit was uplifting for the students in the lead-up to the Xavier Sevens rugby carnival in Kew last Saturday.
“The players came out as part of our partnership with Rugby Victoria,” Ms O’Neill said. “The students really loved it. Their coaching and advice was invaluable for our Rugby Academy going into the Xavier Sevens.”
Ms O’Neill said passion for rugby had grown at Grange thanks to after-school training programs.
The Grange P-12 senior boys’ team defeated St Kevins College to bring home the bowl at the Xavier Sevens.
