Melbourne commuters have been warned that public transport services may experience disruptions during the next few weeks, due a large number of staff being required to isolate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Transport has today issued a statement which said driver availability has been impacted by the isolation requirements.

“The Department of Transport continues to work closely with public transport operators to minimise the impact on passengers and to ensure the health and welfare of our staff and passengers,” the statement said.

“Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time.

“The Department of Transport thanks passengers for their patience and understanding during this challenging time.”

Buses will also replace trains between North Melbourne and Werribee/Williamstown from 8.15pm until the last train each night from Sunday, January 9 to Wednesday, January 12, due to planned works.

Passengers have been advised to allow an extra 60 minutes for their journeys.

Public transport across Melbourne is operating under a COVIDSafe plan including the regular cleaning of trains, trams and buses, stations and stops every night.

More than 500 hand sanitisers have been installed across the network.

All passengers aged eight years and over must wear a fitted face mask when travelling on public transport.
