Point Cook properties could be compulsorily acquired in a state government bid to build two new schools in the area.
The government yesterday announced it was allocating $13.8 million towards the construction of the new Sanctuary Lakes South P-9 school, and $1 million for architectural planning and community consultations for a new Point Cook Senior Secondary School, which will cater for years 10 to 12.
A spokeswoman for Altona MP Jill Hennessy said while money had been put aside to acquire land for both schools, the government was “facing challenges” in acquiring parcels of land.
“If an agreement is not reached on the acquisition of both sites soon, then options for compulsory acquisition may need to be considered,” the spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman would not provide any details regarding the sites currently being considered for the schools.
It is unclear if homes could be among the property acquisitions.
