A Tarneit robbery has left a woman feeling “absolutely shattered” after the thief stole a pair of headphones which were a gift from her late mother.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she was walking along Edmund Drive about 1.15pm on Saturday, July 17, wearing a pair of rose-gold Beats Solo3 headphones, which were the last present her mother – who had motor neurone disease – gave her before she died two years ago.
The woman said as she walked, she noticed a silver Ford sedan with a group of youths inside it stop near her.
She said a youth from the car snuck up on her and grabbed the headphones from behind, before running back to the car.
The woman said she shouted: “Stop, these were the last gift my mum gave me before she died’.”
The woman, who is aged in her fifties, said she now felt too frightened to walk around Tarneit, despite needing to do so for exercise because she suffers from a heart and lung condition.
“I’ve only lived in the area for about 12 months and now I’m too scared to go for a walk,” she said.
The woman said she was hoping whoever stole the headphones would hand them into a police station.
“I just want the headphones, for what they’re worth to somebody else – you might pay $150 to $200 for them – but they are priceless to me,” she said.
“They were mum’s last gift and whoever has them, if they have the compassion to return them, I’m happy to think about it never again.”
Police said they are investigating the robbery.
The youth is perceived to be of African appearance and about 20 years old.
