Precious laptop found after burglary arrests

UPDATE

A Point Cook family is celebrating the recovery of their deceased son’s laptop which was stolen earlier this week.

The Moreas family woke on Wednesday morning to found their house had been burgled and their car and a number of other items stolen.

Among the missing goods was the laptop of the son Rafael, who passed away in December after a battle with Neuroblastoma.

The laptop contains a number of recordings of aspiring YouTuber Rafael, cherished by the family.

The car was recovered yesterday afternoon, and police have just confirmed that the laptop was recovered at a Craigieburn home this afternoon.

Rafael’s father, Dom Moreas, said it was fantastic news.

“That laptop was his favourite thing in his last year,” Mr Moreas said. “He couldn’t attend school, so he spent a lot of time on it, always recording himself, so we have those memories of our son back.”

“It’s definitely a big relief.”

Wyndham crime investigation unit’s detective sergeant Matt Kershaw said six teenagers had been arrested, with two out on bail and four in custody.

“This is an absolute success on our end,” he said. “Our aim is always to get the property back and apprehend the offenders, and we’ve done that.”

“This is the rewarding part of the job. That laptop had a lot of meaning and sentimental value to the family, so getting it back was a great success.”
