Police injured in Point Cook collision

Two police officers were taken to hospital this morning after their unmarked police car was swiped by a vehicle running a red light in Point Cook.

The police vehicle was travelling north on Boardwalk Boulevard when it entered the intersection at Dunnings Road about 4.15am. A black Passat station wagon, travelling west on Dunnings Road, entered the intersection against a red light, colliding with the police vehicle.

The four people inside the black station wagon fled the crash, which occurred outside Stockland Point Cook Shopping Centre. Two teenage boys, believed to be aged 17 and 18, are helping police with their inquiries. Another two are on the run.

It is believed the teens were going for an early morning joyride in a relative’s car when the crash occurred, according to 3AW.

Both the policeman and policewoman in the incident were taken by ambulance to hospital with minor injuries.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
