Police will crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour in Wyndham during the school holidays as part of ‘Operation Sweeper’.
Officers from several local policing units have combined with specialist resources to patrol busy shopping strips and transport hubs.
Watton Street in Werribee will be of key focus due to the prevalence of thefts and shoplifting, while police will also be on the lookout for weapons and drug offences.
Police will engage with businesses and traders around the Watton Street precinct to strengthen crime prevention measures and address any ongoing security issues.
The operation will also involve the local Crime Reduction Team which will monitor the activities of known youth gang members to prevent offences.
Local resources from the Wyndham Neighbourhood Policing Team, Proactive Policing Unit and the Crime Reduction Team are all involved in the operation.
Senior Sergeant Nathan Gardiner said police presence in the area will be “strong and dedicated.”
“We understand the Wyndham community has been impacted by a number of significant incidents recently,” he said.
“Werribee remains a safe place to live and visit, however like the rest of the state, is experiencing an increase in property offences which we are working hard to change.”
