Police chase ends in Hoppers Crossing arrest

An extended police pursuit through the western suburbs last night has ended with a man’s arrest.

A 24-year-old man from Lara was arrested at a home in Hoppers Crossing where he fled after dumping an allegedly stolen vehicle.

The pursuit began when the police airwing spotted a Toyota Camry driving at high speed along the Princess Freeway at Hoppers Crossing at 11pm.

An attempted intercept in Laverton failed when a passenger jumped out of the Camry and the driver evaded police at high speed.

The police airwing then followed the Camry through Point Cook and Hoppers Crossing before it was dumped by the driver who then ran into the home in Baden Drive.

The man was found in a rear room of the property and taken into custody.

He was interviewed by police last night and is expected to be charged with motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, conduct endangering serious injury and other driving offences.
