A 26-year-old man who lead police through a 90-minute pursuit in a stolen car overnight has been arrested.
The chase started when police attempted to intercept a Volkswagen on the Western Ring Road in Laverton about 12.10am.
When the vehicle failed to stop, it was monitored by the Critical Incident Response Team and the Dog Squad across Werribee and Hoppers Crossing and a pursuit was initiated.
The car, which was allegedly stolen during an aggravated burglary in Werribee on May 29, came to a stop on Heaths Road in Werribee at 1.45am.
The driver allegedly challenged police, who deployed a conducted electrical device. However, that failed to deter the offender, who continued to be hostile towards police before he was bitten by a police dog and arrested.
He has been taken to hospital for treatment.
It is anticipated the man will be interviewed for various offences including aggravated burglary, reckless conduct endangering life, theft of motor car, assault police and numerous traffic related offences.
No police were injured during the incident and there was minor damage to three police vehicles.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
