Point Cook school on alert after shooting threat

Point Cook Secondary College was on high alert after a threat of mass shooting was posted on a social media app.

Victoria Police were guarding the school on Friday afternoon after the threat was made via social media.

The threat was put on the Whisper app, Seven News reported.

The warning read that “someone was going to shoot students at the senior school”, according to Seven News.

Police are now searching for the person behind the threat. However, Whisper is an anonymous social network that encourages users to share their most intimate secrets.

Officers guarded the front gate of Point Cook as classes finished on Friday.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Nolan said a concerning post was brought to the attention of police by an off-shore social media provider relating to an education facility at Point Cook.

“Police are providing a presence at the school whilst they investigate the post,” Ms Nolan said.

An email was sent to parents to advise them of the incident, with some parents opting to pick their children up early from school.

Those children were escorted off the grounds by the police.

Point Cook Secondary College principal Darran Kruse said the school was working closely with the police.

“The safety and security of our students is paramount,” Mr Kruse said.

Parents told Seven News they felt “uneasy” seeing police around the school.

“Just concerned about the safety about my kids that are attending the school and not knowing what is happening,” one parent said.
