Point Cook police station a step closer

A new police station at Point Cook is a step closer after the state government allocated funds to search and acquire land in today’s state budget.
The budget, released this afternoon, includes $41.4 million in police infrastructure funding to acquire land for a new police station at Point Cook and relocate the East Melbourne Police Station into a new building.
The budget did not state how much out of the $41.4 million would be dedicated to each project.
Altona MP Jill Hennessy  welcomed the funding, describing it as “a significant first step in building a police station in Point Cook”.
“I am proud to have secured this critical first step for our community, and will continue to advocate for more police, more protection, and more prevention for my electorate,” Ms Hennessy said.
“This funding will ensure an appropriate site is located to meet the future policing needs of Point Cook and surrounds.”
The announcement comes on top of the state government’s previously-announced commitment to recruit 3135 new police officers across the next four years.
