Tarneit Rise Primary School’s fundraising committee is taking advantage of the school’s gym being used as a polling centre on election day this Saturday by hosting a fundraising sausage sizzle.
Committee member Erin Block said the money raised would go towards a second playground for Tarneit Rise, which opened at the beginning of this year for students across prep to grade 2.
From next year, the school will have students from prep to grade 6, with about 600 children currently enrolled for 2019.
Ms Block said the school has only one playground, which was not big enough to cater for a tripling of its population.
“We’ve got this tiny little climbing frame, and when you consider how many students we’re about to get, it’s definitely not enough.
“When you’re adding grade 6s into the mix, you probably need something a bit more challenging to cater for their recreational needs.”
The committee has raised $5000 towards its $60,000 target so far, with plans to also host a public movie night in December.
