Terraces for bird photography and viewing platforms taking in the Werribee River are among the proposed additions under a draft plan for the K Road Cliffs.
The K Road Cliffs Master Plan, which is out for public feedback, outlines Wyndham council’s long-term plan for the iconic site.
Wyndham environment and sustainability portfolio holder Heather Marcus said the draft master plan was a guide for the future of the K Road Cliffs.
“Based on community engagement sessions we hosted back in February, the draft master plan aims to reduce erosion and protect the unique cliff geology, protect and enhance natural vegetation and habitat, improve parking to minimise vehicle impacts on the site, and improve pedestrian access,” Cr Marcus said.
The community renewed calls for council to conduct erosion control works and establish a solid management plan of the K Road Cliffs following a landslide in April, as reported in Star Weekly.
Council received a $109,000 state grant in 2016 after two council-commissioned reports revealed that natural erosion, the age and condition of trees at the site meant work was needed to improve safety.
The draft master plan proposes drainage works to redirect storm water runoff away from the fragile cliff edge, two new carparks significantly reducing the impact of vehicles and a new cliff-top walking path to connect site features.
Fencing to limit access to the cliff edge, a new staircase and revegetation works on upper cliff area are also in the plan.
“This draft document is now out for public feedback, and I encourage residents who live in the area, or those who visit the site, to provide feedback by completing the online survey,” Cr Marcus said.
