Visitors to Melbourne’s The Lost Dogs’ Home, from municipalities such as Wyndham, have significantly increased since doors reopened.

For the first time in two years due to COVID, The Lost Dogs’ Home has allowed people to walk in and adopt a pet.

The number of cats adopted in the first quarter of the year rose by almost 49 per cent compared to the same time last year.

The Lost Dogs’ Home spokesperson Suzana Talevski said cats were still a very popular pet option.

‘’We are still in the midst of a very heavy kitten season so getting these beautiful cats into forever homes is crucial and we thank the community for getting on board,’’ Ms Talevski said.

The number of dogs adopted increased by 62 per cent.

‘’Victorian’s love for their furry companions is now stronger than ever and we couldn’t be happier. What is even more pleasing is the return rate of animals is less than five per cent of what we are adopting out.”
