Seeing a peacock wandering down a suburban street is not an everyday occurrence, but this happened in Werribee on the weekend.

A community member named Zac posted photos of the colourful bird in the Lost Pets in the West (Melbourne) Facebook group on Saturday, November 27, asking if anyone had lost a peacock.

Zac said he spotted the peacock at 8am on Cheyne Street.

As well, Zac told Star Weekly that he exited his vehicle upon spotting the peacock, was about halfway down the road.

“He lingered for a bit once I hopped out of the car, almost as if he was trying to show off,” Zac said.

“He jumped up on a few roofs and even perched up on someone’s car for a short time, once he felt he was high enough he’d let out a beautiful call.

‘His singing is what got most of the neighbours to come out and have a look.

“After about an hour of walking in circles looking a bit lost, he got his bearing again and headed west down Cheyne Street, into a nearby park where I decided it was best to let him go on his way without bothering him.”

During this time, Zac called Werribee Open Range Zoo to see if the peacock was an escaped resident, along with Wyndham council, vets and wildlife services.

Zac said that Wyndham council mentioned they would send a ranger out to look for the peacock, and that the ranger would possibly call him to get some additional information.

“But I never got a phone call, so I can only assume the stunning creature is still wandering around somewhere, hopefully he can brighten a few more days- like he did mine, before he moves on for good,” Zac said.
