A $14.5 million initiative to upgrade almost 200 parks across Wyndham over four years has been completed.
The Wyndham council project has transformed nearly the parks with a mix of playground upgrades, electricity box painting, pathways, landscaping, picnic equipment and seating.
Wyndham mayor Adele Hegedich said the upgrades were tailored to each park to make them more accessible, safer, comfortable and welcoming to everyone.
“Local parks play a vital role in the life of a community – they provide space for exercising, playing, socialising with friends and family or relaxing and unwinding,” Cr Hegedich said.
“The Wyndham Parks 2021 Project has breathed new life into nearly 200 of our local parks, creating beautiful open spaces that the whole family can enjoy, close to home.
“The significance of this project has taken on bigger meaning since the pandemic, with the community increasingly relying on parks and open spaces during lockdowns as a place to exercise and for children to get outdoors and play.”
Cr Hegedich said that despite works being put on hold a number of times in the past 18 months due to lockdowns, the council has worked hard to deliver 25 park upgrades over the 2020-21 financial year.
“This includes an upgrade of Bellbridge Drive Park in Hoppers Crossing, which scored upgraded soccer goals, additional garden beds and trees and landscaping,” she said.
“I encourage families to take their kids out and make the most of their local park, and to respect the current restrictions relating to these spaces.”
