Wyndham’s top cop has been promoted.
Inspector Frank Sells will finish up in Wyndham at the end of this year to take on a new role as superintendent of Victoria Police’s Road Policing Strategy Division within Road Policing Command.
He will be working with the Transport Accident Commission, VicRoads, the roads minister and other stakeholders as part of the Towards Zero campaign to help bring down the state’s road toll.
“I’m quite excited about it,” he said.
His replacement has yet to be appointed, but Inspector Sells said the search was well under way.
Inspector Sells, who has been the local area commander of the Wyndham police service area for the past two years, has received two commendations in that time – one a personal divisional commendation for his leadership, commitment to duty, dedication, teamwork, perseverance and management skills.
The other was dedicated to the entire Wyndham management team in acknowledgement of the work undertaken to initiate positive cultural change within the Wyndham area.
Inspector Sells thanked his team for their hard work and dedication in the past two years.
He said he was particularly proud of the inroads Wyndham police had made in dealing with family violence, the local road toll and community safety.
“When I first came here, it was quite amazing, the rate of family violence,” he said.
“Family violence is really high-profile now, and people are willing to come forward and report it, and that’s the key.
“We’ve done really well in terms of road policing, as well.
“Public order is another one. The community safety team … it’s been fantastic for us.”
