Numbers for property damage offences in Wyndham are falling

Vandals have been responsible for more than 6500 property damage offences in Wyndham in the past five years, but the numbers are falling.

Figures from the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) show that 1504 property damage offences were committed in the 12 months to March 31, 2012.

The number fell to 1195 in the 12 months to March 31, 2016.

The offences include graffiti and other property damage.

According to the agency, the north-west metro region, which includes Wyndham, has consistently had the highest number of property damage offences in Victoria.

But across the state, the number of property damage offences has fallen 10.5 per cent in the past five years.

Of the 43,641 property damage offences in Victoria in the year ending March 31 this year, 48.1 per cent were at residential locations and 33.5 per cent at community locations.

The remaining 18.4 per cent of offences were categorised as happening at “other” or “unknown” locations.

The CSA said criminal damage offences comprised 91.7 per cent of all property damage offences.

Graffiti and other property damage offences made up the remaining 8.3 per cent.
