The number of aggravated burglaries across Wyndham is declining as a result of police work, according to Police Minister Lisa Neville.
During a visit to Werribee Police station last week with Premier Daniel Andrews and Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton, Ms Neville acknowledged that challenges remain but said there had been progress.
“There are particular targeted areas we need to focus on,” Ms Neville said.
“In the last couple of months, over 100 arrests have been made in relation to car-jackings and home burglary issues.
“In this community there have not been any incidents in the past couple of weeks. We’re starting to see a difference.”
During his Werribee visit, Mr Andrews announced that police would be provided new technology in an overhaul of how frontline officers access information and respond to crime.
Mobile devices, likely to be tablets, are expected to save at least 30 minutes every eight-hour police shift, freeing up time for police officers to be out in the community.
On the topic of police numbers, Ms Neville said 1158 new police personnel, in the form of frontline police, public safety officers and custody officers, had been funded.
