Business owners are signing up to the Wyndham Business and Tourism Association (WBTA) in droves.

Starting out in 2015 with a handful of traders, the group has grown to nearly 80 members, all intent on driving business growth in Wyndham.

Wyndham councillor Walter Villagonzalo said the WBTA had supported – and in many cases driven – a host of initiatives around the Werribee CBD, including the lighting up of Station Place and a growing number of free family-friendly events.

It has also hosted a Spring Fashion Carnival and Ladies Day luncheon at Werribee Races, which raised nearly $5000 for the Critical Care Unit at Werribee Mercy Hospital.

“This shows how enthusiastic local businesses and their employees are to lay a strong foundation for the future,” Cr Villagonzalo said.

WBTA chairman Nick Christou said while the bulk of members were based within the Werribee CBD, the group hoped to expand its membership base further into other business activity centres across Wyndham.

WBTA events and promotions chairwoman Tonia Tribe added: “We’re a business community and a part of the local community. You can’t be in the area and not be involved.”
