No writer’s block for Melanie

This Tarneit author has published three books in the past 10 months – and she shows no signs of slowing down.

Melanie Tomlin has spent the past year fulfilling her life-long dream of being a published author.

It was sparked when she wrote her first-ever book on the typewriter her parents bought her at age 12.

Since November last year, she has released three books in her ‘Angel’ series, a collection of dark, fantasy novels.

In coming months she will self-publish a book of poems and a children’s picture book that she illustrated herself based on the adventures of one of her dogs, Lucy.

Her other dog, Ralph, is now begging to be immortalised in the same way, Ms Tomlin says.

To top it off, her fourth book in the Angel series is being looked over by an editor while she writes the fifth installment.

Ms Tomlin, who works full-time as a business analyst and writes every opportunity she gets, wrote the first four Angel books in 2009 but only thought about publishing them last year when she had an epiphany.

“I thought, this is my bucket list thing. I don’t want to be on my death bed and say, I wish I’d tried.

“So I got them out, I read them, I did some re-writing, I found an editor, someone helped me with the first two covers and I’ve been doing my own covers ever since.”
