No smoke or fire at Werribee Mercy

A false alarm resulted in Werribee Mercy Hospital going into lockdown earlier today.

The hospital called a code red – an emergency procedure code for smoke or fire – about 10.30am today after a nurse reported smelling smoke in the hospital’s main corridor, a Mercy Health spokesperson said.

A Country Fire Authority spokeswoman confirmed that a CFA crew had been dispatched to the hospital this morning, but deemed it a false alarm after finding no visible signs of smoke or fire.

People were prevented from entering the hospital for about 30 minutes during the false alarm.
