Nudists will be forced to cover up at a Werribee South beach from September 1.
Planning Minister Richard Wynne has approved a request from Wyndham Council for Campbells Cove’s clothing optional status to be revoked.
Last July, the council voted to ask the government to ban nudists from bathing in the buff at the beach.
It said that urban growth in Werribee South and Point Cook meant that the beach was no longer secluded.
The council also felt that the beach should no longer be open to nudists given its rising popularity among families.
The decision had the backing of the Ratepayers of Werribee South.
Mr Wynne said that Campbells Cove offered more privacy when it was declared a clothing optional beach in 1986.
“Wyndham is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the country. Our laws need to keep pace with population growth,” he said.
Wyndham council will be responsible for enforcing the new rule.
