The state government has marked the next stage in delivering the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, which will change the way Victorians, including those from Wyndham, experience mental health care.
The state government has released a tender for providers to develop a training course designed specifically for the Victorian mental health and wellbeing workforce, covering the foundations of the new act which is scheduled to commence on Friday, September 1.
The training course would support workers to understand and apply the new requirements of the act and to provide a better experience of care for consumers, carers, families and supporters.
Alongside these online training courses and resources, expert change leaders will be introduced into designated mental health services for ongoing education, training and promotion of the act, to support this significant transformation of care.
Mental Health Minister Gabrielle Williams said the new act would create a sustainable, skilled and strong workforce.
“Training our mental health and wellbeing workers in how the new act impacts their work will create an even more compassionate, skilled and responsive workforce to care for Victorians,” she said.
“As recommended by the Royal Commission, we’re not only supporting people living with mental illness, but also the people that work in mental healthcare.”
As part of a foundation recommendation of the Royal Commission, the new act would support a transformed mental health system which prioritises the rights, dignity and autonomy of consumers, families and supporters.
