The state government has introduced 10 new train services on the Werribee line.
They’re part of hundreds of new train and tram services added to the state’s busiest lines, to give passengers more choice when they travel and help maintain physical distancing across the network.
Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll said that the extra train services would run either side of the morning and afternoon peaks, with two new services each weekday.
The Sunbury, Craigieburn, Mernda, Dandenong, Ringwood and Glen Waverley lines also have two new services each week day.
The Department of Transport and bus operators are also working to permanently remove cash transactions from buses across the next 18 months.
All passengers will be required to travel with a valid Myki that has been topped up ahead of time.
Since March, the state government and Department of Transport have implemented several safety measures including extensive cleaning across the public transport network, hand sanitising facilities and more than $192 million in public transport maintenance.
Victorians are being reminded not to travel on public transport when they feel unwell, and to physically distance from other commuters whenever possible.
“We’re grateful to our frontline public transport staff for keeping Victoria moving during the pandemic – these changes will keep them safer as they do their essential work,” Mr Carroll said.
Some train services on the Werribee line will be replaced with buses, between Newport and Werribee stations, from Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16, while works take place.
The buses will replace trains from 8.25pm Friday to 6.10am Saturday; from 8.30pm Saturday to 6.10am Sunday; and from 7.20pm to the last train Sunday.
Passengers have been advised to allow an extra 40 minutes for travelling.
