New roadworks tracking well

Roadworks have begun on one of Wyndham’s busiest arterials, while a contract to upgrade a second major road has also been given the green light.

The long-awaited duplication of Forsyth Road has begun, and will double the arterial from two lanes to four between Ashcroft Avenue and Sayers Road.

The $7.54 million project, which will also include a new traffic light intersection at Waterways Boulevard and a pedestrian crossing at the Federation Trail crossing, is expected to take 10 months to complete.

Once the work is finished, Forsyth Road will be fully duplicated between Old Geelong Road and Leakes Road.

Wyndham councillor Walter Villagonzalo said: “This road is an important link to the freeway interchange on one side, and works as a connection to arterial roads, like Leakes and Sayers, on the other end”.

Meanwhile, Wyndham council has awarded a $3.99 million contract to upgrade Boundary Road, between Derrimut Road and the Regional Rail Link access track, to Downer EDI.

The project includes rebuilding the existing unsealed two-lane road with asphalt pavement to improve safety, upgrading property access driveways to match the new road and upgrading the intersection at Woods Road.

“The amount of traffic using this section of Boundary Road is expected to increase because of the loss of capacity on other roads due to the high level of road construction during the next three years as part of the Western Roads Upgrade project,” a council report stated.

Works are expected to begin shortly and are slated for completion by February 2019.

In accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between Wyndham and Melton councils, Wyndham is responsible for maintaining this section of Boundary Road. Melton maintains Boundary Road west of Tarneit Road.
