A new program will ensure Victorian drivers, such as those in Wyndham, have access to a high quality training created by road safety experts.
RACV has launched the new Online Safe Driver Training program, designed to protect the safety of people that drive for work.
The program taps into growing demand for and acceptance of online driver tests, training and education programs, and interest from businesses looking to upskill their drivers and keep them safe at work.
The program complements existing RACV programs such as the Learner and Hazard Perception tests for young drivers which are offered by RACV online.
RACV safety policy lead Elvira Lazar said the program would teach drivers to protect themselves and adopt a ‘safety mindset’ that encourages them to understand the factors that increase crash risk.
“According to Safe Work Australia, about one third of Australian workplace fatalities involve a vehicle and around 60 per cent of crashes are the fault of someone driving for work,” Ms Lazar said.
RACV executive general manager of motoring and mobility Phil Turnbull said the online program would fulfill the training needs of workers who need to drive as part of their job, but cannot meet face-to-face due to schedules or work locations.
“The online training covers every aspect of driver training and provides practical advice about the vehicle, the road and driver behaviours to keep drivers and everyone else on the road safe.
“It assists participants evaluating their unique situation and make decisions about how to apply their learnings to their work environment and become a leader for others in their workplace.”
