New portable classroom for Truganina

The state government has announced $947,000 funding to provide Truganina P-9 College with a double-storey portable classroom.

Tarneit MP Telmo Languiller, who made the announcement last week, said the project would give students a new, modern learning space.

“This upgrade is about more than giving Truganina P-9 College students the school facilities they deserve – it is about helping build community pride in a great local school,” he said.

The double-storey building will be installed and ready for students to use by the start of term one next year.

The portable will include double-glazed windows and insulation to reduce heat loss, wall and ceiling linings to reduce internal noise reverberation, an energy efficient design and external window shades.

Mr Languiller said the funding was part of an $8 million package, set aside in the 2018-19 state budget, to place portable buildings at 20 schools. He said more portables may be available in the future.

“It is anticipated the 2018-19 relocatable building program will create approximately 120 jobs in manufacturing and related industries,” he said.

Several Victorian schools already have double-storey portable classrooms – or have used them in the past – including North Melbourne Primary School, West Preston Primary School and Box Hill High School.

In April this year, the government opened a portable kindergarten building in Tarneit, adjacent to Tarneit P-9 College and Tarneit Senior Secondary College.

A portable kindergarten will also be installed at Wyndham Vale Primary School.
