The Grange Reserve soccer field in Hoppers Crossing is getting a new pitch.

Wyndham council has awarded an $800,000 contract for construction of a new synthetic pitch at the reserve, with works scheduled to start in September.

Wyndham’s active city portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said the works would replace the existing synthetic surface on the pitch, which has reached the end of its useful life.

“As Wyndham’s population grows, so too does the need to provide our community with quality sporting infrastructure close to home,” Cr Maynard said.

“Synthetic surfaces require no irrigation during warmer months, resulting in lower maintenance costs, and are more suitable for high usage compared to grass pitches.

“This replacement surface will breathe new life into the field and follows the installation of four lighting poles at pitch one earlier this year, which have allowed teams like the Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club to use the ground for training and games at night.”

Cr Maynard said he would like to thank the federal government for providing funding for the new Grange soccer pitch project, through a grant from its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

Works are expected to be complete on the new pitch in mid-December.
