Werribee’s CBD will get 155 new carparking spaces come June.
Works will begin this week on the long-awaited Cherry Street carpark, which will be built over two stages – 108 spaces during stage one and 47 during stage two – on the former Werribee Hyundai site and two adjoining sites.
The project will also include a new pedestrian crossing across Cherry Street for carpark users and a street art mural.
It’s expected to be finished by mid-June.
Mayor Adele Hegedich said the new carpark would be a welcome addition to Werribee’s CBD.
Fellow councillor and economic development portfolio-holder Intaj Khan added: “The Werribee city centre is a very popular area and finding a park can often be difficult.
“When this new carpark is complete, it will provide 155 new spaces within one of Wyndham’s busiest shopping and business precincts.”
The Cherry Street site is one of three carparks – including the Riverbend park in Comben Drive and the Gateway park on Synnot Street – that Wyndham council is looking to sell in a bid to “activate” Werribee CBD.
The council has advertised for expressions of interest for the three sites, envisioning more parking spaces, apartments, shops, restaurants and cafes.
