Wyndham will miss out on the state government’s rollout of new paramedics set to hit the streets next month.
The government will deploy 48 new paramedics around the state this month, with 10 to be based at ambulance stations in the western suburbs, 27 in the east, five in Hume, two in Barwon South West and four in the Loddon region.
A spokeswoman from Ambulance Victoria confirmed last week that none will be based in Wyndham.
The rollout is part of a $500 million plan to improve ambulance response times, and includes the recruitment of 450 new paramedics over three years, commissioning more ambulances and 15 new and upgraded stations across Victoria, including a new station at Wyndham Vale.
The Wyndham Vale station is expected to be operational by late next year.
The Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the organisation is still scoping a suitable location for the new 24-hour Wyndham station.
She said it will be staffed by 14 full-time equivalent paramedics and will be offered a new ambulance vehicle.
Wyndham currently has ambulance stations at Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Point Cook.
Meanwhile, Brimbank and Footscray will be home to two of six new ambulance “super response centres”, to deal with major emergencies as well as day-to-day medical challenges.
